Precision Machining Services — Tight-Tolerance CNC Parts
Precision machining at Traxis starts with your drawing’s critical dimensions, datums, and surface-finish callouts. The shop mills and turns metals and engineering plastics for repeat production, reviewing material, geometry, and feature size before quoting work that calls for tighter tolerances.

What is precision machining?
Precision machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that removes material from a block or bar of stock to create a part within specified dimensional limits. Those limits define how much a feature may vary while still meeting the drawing requirements for fit and function.
Traxis reviews the dimensions, datums, and surface-finish requirements that matter to your part before quoting. Tighter tolerances than the standard title block below are held as drawn.
Precision machining processes we use
CNC Milling
3-axis, 4th-axis, and 5-axis milling for prismatic parts, pockets, precision bores, and deck-to-thickness and flatness callouts.
CNC Turning
Turn-mill work with live tooling and Y-axis: threaded ID and OD, bores, and milled features in one setup.
Deburring & Inspection
Parts are deburred and checked against the drawing before shipping.
Tolerances, Inspection & Reports
Traxis checks parts during machining and gives every job final inspection against the drawing. See the inspection equipment used for measurement; request documentation when submitting your RFQ.
| Dimension | Standard tolerance |
|---|---|
| Three-place decimals | ±.005 |
| Two-place decimals | ±.01 |
| Angles | ±1° |
- Include GD&T callouts on the drawing where required
- First-article inspection reports, material certifications, and full lot traceability on request
How a first-article report is laid out
When you ask for a first-article inspection report, the drawing is ballooned so every characteristic has a number. The report then lists each numbered characteristic with its drawing specification, nominal and tolerance, the instrument used to check it, and the measured result, plus a visual check of the part. It is signed and dated by our quality manager.
Materials for precision machined parts
Traxis machines precision parts in metals and engineering plastics. The drawing needs the exact grade and condition so material requirements can be reviewed with the dimensional callouts.
- Aluminum alloys and cast plate, including 6061 and Mic-6
- Stainless steel and titanium, with the grade specified
- Engineering plastics such as acetal and 30% glass-filled PEEK
- Customer-supplied stock reviewed with its material documentation
Applications & industries
We make precision parts for industrial and automation equipment, electronics and test equipment, machinery, oil & gas and energy, and robotics and hardware — production runs and repeat programs, with prototype support for production customers.
Include any application-specific inspection or documentation requirements in your RFQ so we can confirm whether the job is a fit.
Precision machining FAQ
Traxis uses standard title-block tolerances of ±.005 on three-place dimensions, ±.01 on two-place dimensions, and ±1° angular; tighter tolerances are held as drawn. The shop reviews material, geometry, and feature size before quoting to confirm the requirements for your particular part.
Traxis provides design-for-manufacturing feedback during quoting when a change could simplify machining or reduce cost. Drawing questions about geometry and tolerances are discussed in the RFQ thread. Proposed changes can be reviewed before accepting the quote; tighter requirements remain subject to review of the particular part.
Traxis measures parts using a Hexagon Absolute Arm 85 portable CMM (2.5 m) running PC-DMIS 2024.1. A surface plate and hand instruments are also used for dimensional inspection.
For a precision machining review, the PDF drawing should state dimensional tolerances, datums, GD&T, and surface-finish requirements. Supply the corresponding STEP model for every part, along with material grade and quantity. Identify any inspection report or traceability requirement before ordering so the quote covers both making the part and documenting it.
Material certifications are available on request when Traxis supplies the material. If you are supplying stock, include its grade, condition, dimensions, and available certifications in the RFQ. The shop reviews those details before material is sent; state any lot-traceability requirement at the same time.
Inspection is part of the work at the owner-led Traxis shop. The quoting process covers how drawing questions and documentation requirements are reviewed before an order.
